Tips to Pack Jewelry for Travel

We can always see ourselves relaxing on an island or jetting away for a romantic getaway.  Many of us must travel for work.  We all look forward to getting away to spend holidays and special occasions with loved ones.  Whatever your travel plans are,  you will certainly want to bring along your favorite jewelry pieces to match all of your beautiful outfits.   To avoid any issues that travel will likely cause with our most precious or fashion accessories, here are some tips to pack jewelry for travel.  They are simple little tricks, using everyday objects, that will make travel with your jewelry easier…so that it arrives nice, neat and untangled.

Tips to Pack Jewelry for Travel – TIP #1 – Straws for Necklaces

Who has experienced the hell of a necklace chain full of knots? This happens all too often when we travel with necklaces by carrying them in a pouch or a box.
A super simple trick is to insert your chain into a straw and then re-close the clasp. The plastic rigidity of the straw will prevent your necklace from tangling. For shorter chains, simply cut the straw. For thicker necklaces that will not fit in the diameter of a straw, replace it with an empty toilet paper roll. (see Tip 3).

Tips to Pack Jewelry for Travel – TIP #2 – Small Zip-Closure Baggie for Necklaces

Another handy little trick to avoid knots in your necklaces is to store the chain in a zip-closure baggie.  Allow the bulk of the necklace to rest inside the baggie while leaving the clasp poking out the top of the bag.  In this way, it is very difficult for your necklaces to become tangled.  You can also use these small bags for keeping earrings together and to make sure that earring backings are not lost.

Tips to Pack Jewelry for Travel – TIP #3 – Toilet Paper Rolls

We bet you never considered the many travel uses there are by using empty toilet paper rolls!  They are so versatile!  Using empty toilet paper rolls are a GREAT great way to organize your jewelry while traveling.  Wrap your bracelets around the roll, pin your earrings on the sides, and insert your necklaces in the hole like demonstrated with a straw. If you do not have a lot of jewelry to take on the road, cut the roll in half and that should do the trick!

Tips to Pack Jewelry for Travel – TIP #4 – Buttons for Earrings

This has got to be our favorite.  Have you ever experienced earrings that become orphaned by losing one of the pair?   Yet you were sure to have packed both earrings in your bag but unfortunately one is just MIA right when you need them!   Fret no more!  This extremely annoying issue will easily be solved by this handy trick.  Post or hook the two earrings of the same pair into the holes of a button!  Use small rubber backings for fish hook earrings too!  (Plus, how CUTE right?)

Tips to Pack Jewelry for Travel – TIP #5 – Sunglasses Case

A pouch or a small box is not always ideal to preserve jewelry from shocks in your suitcase. If you carry fragile jewelry that can be damaged or deformed during the trip, a rigid glasses case is a trick that works perfectly! Rings, earrings, necklaces, and bracelets will remain perfectly protected. This trick is especially recommended for all jewelry with stones.

Tips to Pack Jewelry for Travel – TIP #7 – Towel Roll

With the swimsuit, the towel is the ultimate accessory for the beach.   But did you know that it is also a soft setting that will protect your jewelry from shocks during travel?  Organize your jewelry carefully and then roll the towel up.  Tie it together at the ends with some ribbon or rubber bands and voila!
