Every January we do this. We absolutely swear that this year, we’ll spend an extra hour with the little one doing homework. At other times of the week, we can fit in those TRX and Pilates classes. Then comes February, and you forget all about it. Then comes the guilt. Because we can always be better moms.

Stop Comparing

You’ll never be like Angelina Jolie. With five housekeepers ready to help, and other forms of support, she has a lot of assistance that many working moms do not have.

Everyone has their story. All of your life is yours, and you should only worry about what’s going on in your home. Don’t compare yourself to other moms around the block, because everyone is fighting their own battle, although you may not see it.

Beginner Tip: Learn to be happy for yourself, and for others. No jealousy or resentfulness allowed!

Stop Trying to be your Kid’s Bestie

As much as you always envisioned getting manis with your daughter, and going to a movie with your son every Sunday, it doesn’t always work out this way. Sometimes, they need their own space, and sometimes they don’t really like you for the moment.

If you think they like you 24/7, try forbidding a sleepover, and they won’t speak to you for days. Every time you get a foot stomp, a sigh, or eye rolling, remember that it’s not always going to be perfect. Your children need a role model, not another best friend forever.

Home Workouts

Juggling a million things at once get very, very overwhelming. But as the saying goes, “when there’s a will, there’s a way.” If you really don’t have the time to leave your kids, and go to the gym, you can always workout at home. Literally taking 20 minutes a day to do some jumping jacks, or squats can bring you a long way.

It will not only help boost some energy, but it can help reduce stress. Take 20 minutes either right after dropping off the kids at school, or even before bed. Either way, you’ll be developing a great routine to reduce stress, stay fit, and overall maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Put That Phone Down

Although you’ve probably heard this one before, it’s for a good reason. The amount of phone use has skyrocketed and is now the highest it’s ever been. Using your phone to look through useless social media feeds takes away precious time you could be using for doing laundry, polishing your floors, or taking care of your chores.

Think about replacing all that phone time with productive tasks such as going grocery shopping, or taking a stroll to clear your mind. Try putting your phone away whenever you can, and resist using it for unproductive purposes.  Congratulations, you’ve just saved yourself a lot of time.
