As moms, you wear many hats. You are a doctor, a chef, a teacher, a stylist, a referee and a counselor, among many, many other jobs. You do not get paid, nor do you get an hour lunch break. Take a time out
Between kids, a spouse and a home, life gets busy. Especially when your kids are little, it can be difficult to take time out for yourself. More often than not, it is when you turn your head that little ones manage to get into the worst trouble.
The real way to get through this rut is to treat your personal time as a job. Making it a daily requirement, like eating or showering, will make it happen. Whether it is during nap time or early before the kids wake up, find a free time slot. Force yourself to stop what you are doing and just breathe. Relax by watching your favorite show, reading a book or going for a jog outside. Giving yourself time to just be, without the nagging of kids or a spouse, will do wonders for your mindset.
As a mother, it is common to skip out on self-care. You prioritize your kids showering, brushing teeth and doing hair, but your routine goes out the window. Learn to make it a priority to practice self-care. Doing what makes you feel and look good will make you an overall happier, more satisfied person—and mother.
Taking a bubble bath with candles after the kids go to sleep, going for a manicure or getting a massage are all great options. Again, prepare your schedule to make time for these things. Treating self-care as a job that must be completed will make you more willing to do it.
Forget the guilt
“Mom guilt” is very real. Many mothers feel bad whenever they do anything for themselves. This is unfortunate and should be eliminated. Mothers deserve to make themselves just as much of a priority as their kids are. When moms make themselves a priority, they are in turn benefitting the rest of their family.
Taking time out for yourself allows you to maintain a clearer, happier mindset. As great as being a mother is, sometimes you simply need a break. This is completely normal and acceptable. Taking a step back and doing something for yourself will allow you to be more focused on your kids when you are with them.
Furthermore, before you were a mother you were your own person. It may be difficult, but try not to forget that. Remember the person you were before your kids and take care of that person. She deserves time to breathe, pamper herself and do what makes her happy.
